Helping Hands Across America food drive set for Nov. 10

EAU CLAIRE — All members of the university community at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire are invited to fight hunger and help those in need in the Chippewa Valley by taking part in a special Helping Hands Across America event Nov. 10. The Blugold Dining program will sponsor the nonperishable food drive all day in all campus dining locations.
The nonperishable food items collected on the UW-Eau Claire campus will help senior citizens, single parents, the working poor, the homeless, the mentally ill and others in need throughout the Chippewa Valley.
Last year more than 2,800 pounds of food was collected and donated to the Feed My People Food Bank in Eau Claire. Blugold Dining's goal is to collect more than 5,000 pounds of food during this year's event. Faculty and staff members are encouraged to collect food as a department or class project.
As a special incentive for group participation, the following prizes will be awarded:
- The top student organization or residence hall donating the most food per person will win $250 worth of catering from Blugold Dining or $150 deposited into the group's campus account.
- The academic department or administrative office donating the most food per person will receive a day of catered food from Blugold Dining that includes breakfast pizzas with coffee, lunch at The Dulany (or a buffet catered to the office) and an afternoon treat.
Donations from the community are also welcome. Those wishing to contribute may make their donations at Marketplace on the lower level of Davies Center from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Nov. 10.
