Communication and journalism students receive Greater Milwaukee Foundation scholarships

RELEASED: Oct. 27, 2010 Greater Milwaukee Foundation logo

EAU CLAIRE — Two University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students have received 2010-11 Greater Milwaukee Foundation Walter Jay and Clara Charlotte Damm Fund scholarships.

Senior Elizabeth Dohms, Wausau, and junior Megan Coughlin, Rochester, Minn., each received $2,250 scholarships. Dohms is a print journalism major with a minor in Web design. Coughlin is a mass communication-public relations major with a minor in marketing.

Awards are given to full-time continuing students who are pursuing careers in radio, television or other news and entertainment communications media. The primary criteria for selection are financial need and scholastic ability. Preference is given to students who have a current relationship with Journal Communications Inc. or one of its subsidiaries. Journal Communications companies include The Journal Sentinel Inc., Journal Broadcast Group, Journal Community Publishing Group, PrimeNet and IPC Print Services.

The scholarship funds for tuition and fees are awarded in two parts — half in fall 2010 and half in spring 2011.

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation is a family of nearly 1,000 individual charitable funds, each created by donors, to serve the local charitable causes of their choice. Grants from funds serve people throughout Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties. Founded in 1915, the Greater Milwaukee Foundation is one of the oldest and largest community foundations in the United States.
