EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire department of music and theatre arts will host a piano recital featuring guest artist Sean Botkin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Botkin will perform several piano preludes by Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, including preludes in C major, B flat major and F sharp minor. Botkin, an assistant professor of piano at the University of Northern Iowa, recently returned from a European tour sponsored by the grandson of Rachmaninoff. The tour included stops in Italy and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria.

Botkin began studying the piano at age five with his mother, making his first orchestral appearance four years later with the Honolulu Symphony. A graduate of Stanford University, the Juilliard School and Indiana University at South Bend, he has studied with eminent artists Adolph Baller, Martin Canin and Alexander Toradze.

Botkin has traveled extensively across Europe and America. He recently returned from giving concerts in Italy and at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. His upcoming engagements include performances of the Rachmaninoff 3rd Piano Concerto in Costa Rica with the University of Northern Iowa Symphony, as well as solo concerts in Portugal and Germany.

The performance is free and open to the public.
