Events planned for National Day on Writing

RELEASED: Oct. 14, 2010

National Day on Writing logoEAU CLAIRE — The University Writing Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host its annual National Day on Writing Oct. 20. The day is officially recognized as a time to celebrate all forms of writing.

Events will take place throughout campus. There will be two public reading panels. The first will feature poetry from noon-1 p.m. in The Cabin of Davies Center. The second will be a celebration of prose, held from 3-4 p.m. in the second-floor breezeway of McIntyre Library. The panels will feature readings by UW-Eau Claire students. Both events were organized with the help of NOTA: None of the Above Art and Poetry Journal and English Festival — a creative arts organization for students.

A gallery of student works will be displayed near the UWC office in Old Library 1142. In addition, the UWC will have tables set up throughout campus where staff can answer questions and supply information. The center will also be sending tutors to Eau Claire's North High School to discuss writing experiences in honor of the day.

The UWC encourages all students, faculty and community members to submit works to the National Gallery of Writing to mark the occasion.

For more information, contact Dr. Blake Westerlund, interim coordinator of the University Writing Center at 715-836-3290, or westerbr@uwec.edu; or the UWC at 715-836-2644 or writingcenter@uwec.edu.
