Small Business Development Center to offer advertising/promotion workshop

RELEASED: Oct. 12, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Small Business Development Center and Continuing Education will offer two marketing seminars this fall.

"Getting Big Results with Small Budgets" will be presented Nov. 10, and "Building Your Brand" will be held Nov. 17. Both seminars will run from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Hibbard Hall Penthouse. Reserved on-campus parking will be available.

Tight marketing budgets require spending less and using creative strategies to achieve results. The "Getting Big Results with Small Budgets" seminar investigates how to stretch limited advertising dollars to create clear, enticing messages to prospective customers.

"Building Your Brand" will teach how to assess one's business image and help identify why customers choose one business over another. The seminar also will help participants analyze the strength of their business brand's assets, describe how to build brand equity and show the importance of assembling a team of branding champions.

Both seminars are designed for key personnel who promote, advertise or perform public relations functions for businesses or nonprofit agencies. Small business owners and managers, sales and marketing professionals, graphic designers and business consultants will be able to quickly implement the practical ideas learned during the workshops.

Dr. Charles Tomkovick, professor of management and marketing at UW-Eau Claire, will be the instructor. His advertising research has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Times, Advertising Age, Adweek, Fortune, Forbes and many other national media outlets including broadcast affiliates of CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, WGN and National Public Radio.

The registration fee for each workshop is $199 per person and includes instruction, materials, light refreshments, free parking and continuing education units. A $40 discount will be given to those who register for both seminars.

As a special bonus, each workshop attendee will receive one hour of free counseling with Tomkovick, valued at $200.

To register or obtain more information, contact the Small Business Development Center. Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities will be made if requested two weeks in advance.
