Continuing Education to offer ACT Prep Course in spring 2011

RELEASED: Oct. 1, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will offer its ACT Prep Course on the UW-Eau Claire campus in spring 2011. Students can choose to attend classes on Saturday mornings (Jan. 22-Mar. 12) or Sunday afternoons (Jan. 23-Mar. 13). The course offers high school students an opportunity to prepare for the April and June national ACT exam dates.

The ACT Prep Course covers all academic areas measured by the ACT: English, Reading, Mathematics, Scientific Reasoning and Writing. Students complete two practice tests and write an ACT essay that is reviewed by UW-Eau Claire English faculty. The practice tests are followed up by in-depth instruction in each subject area. Students also receive a comprehensive ACT textbook that is theirs to keep.

UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education youth coordinator Libby Thurston believes the program serves a need in the community for additional college entrance test preparation.

"The ACT Prep Course is meant to complement shorter programs already offered in the community. It's a cost effective option for students who need a little more review," Thurston said. "Many students choose to prepare on their own, but some students really benefit from a more structured approach." The ACT Prep Course tuition is $149, which includes instruction, practice exams and the ACT textbook.

To register, obtain additional program information or request reasonable accommodations for disabilities, call Continuing Education at 715-836-3636 or 866-893-2423, use the Wisconsin Relay System (711), visit the Continuing Education website or e-mail ce@uwec.edu.
