Story Idea
Site-specific artwork designed by six art students will be on display in McIntyre Library through Tuesday, Nov. 30. Seniors Ivan Venttzke, Wausau, True Lor, Eau Claire, Kyle Pherson, Cumberland, Dan Olson, Bloomington, Minn., and Laura Kelleher, Brookline, Mass., created the sculptures in "Sculpture II: Site-Specific Art," a new class offered through the art & design department. Senior Cory Ploessl, Deerfield, also will display his work. Ploessl was not in the course but worked with Jason Lanka, assistant professor of art & design, through a faculty-student research grant. The course is an exploration of the history, context and creation of site-specific art. According to Lanka, site-specific artwork is created "to exist in a specific place, where artists try to integrate the context of site into the viewer's interpretation of content." For details, contact Jason Lanka at lankaja@uwec.edu.

Calendar Note
UW-Eau Claire will be closed Thursday, Nov. 25,
in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday. The university also will be closed Friday, Nov. 26, for a state-mandated furlough day. Classes will resume and offices will open again Monday, Nov. 29.
