Musical events for the week of Nov. 28

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Nov. 28. All events are free and open to the public.

Tuesday, Nov. 30:

  • Senior Leah Sparks, Janesville, will present a cello recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by Judy Lies, Sparks will present selections by Johannes Brahms, Francesco Geminiani, Astor Piazzolla and Joseph Bodin de Boismortier.
  • A joint student Voice Ensemble performance will begin at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

Wednesday, Dec. 1:

  • Jazz ensembles IV and V, directed by Robert Baca, professor of music, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The concert will feature several selections by famed jazz composers and stand-out performances by UW-Eau Claire's talented student musicians. During the concert, senior Brian Handeland, Minneapolis, Minn., and junior Will Horn, Eagan, Minn., will be student conductors for Jazz IV. Seniors Chris Bresette, Racine, and Andrew Detra, Sun Prairie, will be student conductors for Jazz V.

Thursday, Dec. 2:

  • The UW-Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra will present its fall performance at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The orchestra, directed by Dr. Tulio Rondón, assistant professor of music, will perform Edward Elgar's "Introduction and Allegro," Op. 47 and P.I. Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for Strings," Op. 48.
  • The Clarinet Studio of Dr. Richard Fletcher, professor of music, will perform at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Students will perform selections by Willson Osborne, Bernard Heiden, Gerald Finzi, Michael Garson, Johann Brahms and others.
  • The University Trombone Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Phillip Ostrander, associate professor of music, and the BASSically BRASS Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble, under the direction Dr. Jerry Young, professor of music, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The University Trombone Ensemble will perform selections by Giuseppe Verdi, Johannes Brahms, Ruud Van Eeten and others. BASSically BRASS will present selections by Thom Ritter George, Maurice Durufle, Fisher Tull and others.
