Musical events for the week of Nov. 14

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning Sunday, Nov. 14. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, Nov. 15:

  • The Flute Studio of Dr. Tim Lane, professor of music, will perform at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Several students will perform selections by Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Rhonda Larson and others.
  • The Opera Workshop Ensemble, directed by Dr. Mitra Sadeghpour, associate professor of music, will perform "Magic & Mystery" at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The group will perform Handel's "Alcina" and Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," with musical direction by Dr. Mark Mowry, lecturer of music. The ensemble provides performing opportunities for students interested in broadening their operatic and musical theatre knowledge and experience. In the fall semester, the ensemble produces a scene recital or one-act opera with piano.

Wednesday, Nov. 17:

  • The Oboe Studio of Dr. Christa Garvey, associate professor of music, and the Bassoon Studio of Dr. Kristine Fletcher, senior lecturer of music, will perform a joint recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Students will perform selections by Charles Koechlin, Luigi Merci, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and others.
  • The department of music and theatre arts will present a joint faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital will feature Dr. Christa Garvey, associate professor of music, on oboe; Dr. Kristine Fletcher, senior lecturer of music, on bassoon; Dr. Richard Fletcher, professor of music, on clarinet; and Dr. Tim Lane, professor of music, on flute.

Thursday, Nov. 18:

  • Juniors Kathryn Beck, Blaine, Minn., and Emily Wuest, Oshkosh, will perform a joint clarinet recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Beck and Wuest will perform selections by Armand Russell, Camille Saint-Saens, Mike Curtis, Francis Poulenc and others.
