EAU CLAIRE — The Society of Participating Honor Students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire initiated 26 new members April 25. SOPHS was established at UW-Eau Claire in fall 1977 to recognize sophomore students for academic excellence, as well as for outstanding campus and community involvement during their freshman year.
SOPHS officers are Kristi Wanous, Blooming Prairie, Minn., president; Kelsey Maruska, Lakeville, Minn., vice president; Hannah Gytri, Northfield, Minn., treasurer; and Emily Klingenberg, Edgar, secretary.
The organization also awarded $200 scholarships to Jaimee Hall, Wausau; and Kim Miresse, Waukesha. Scholarships are provided to current SOPHS members who exhibit high achievement in scholarship, service and campus involvement.
