Golden Key International Honour Society sponsors essay contest

RELEASED: May 11, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society held its annual fourth-grade essay contest in April. All fourth-graders in the Eau Claire Area School District were invited to submit their responses to a guided essay titled "One day I opened a letter and inside were two tickets "

Essays were judged by Golden Key university student members. Selections were based on creativity and ingenuity. The winning essays were:

  • First place — Patrick Thomas, Longfellow Elementary; teacher — Scott Gee.
  • Second place — Ryan Cramer, Locust Lane Elementary; teacher — Brad Sommer.
  • Third place — Joshua Champion, Longfellow Elementary; teacher — Scott Gee.

The first-place winner received $50 as well as $50 for his classroom. Second- and third-place winners each received $50 for their classrooms. All winners and participants also received certificates of participation.

The event enabled Golden Key to fulfill its service initiative of literacy while helping local youth extend their writing and creativity beyond the classroom.
