SUBJECT: Hearing on new mission statement set for May 19
Two members of the UW System Board of Regents will conduct a public hearing May 19 to hear comments regarding proposed changes to UW-Eau Claire's mission statement.
The hearing will run from noon-1 p.m. May 19 in the Riverside Theatre of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Regents Mark Bradley and Aaron Wingad (a UW-Eau Claire student) will conduct the hearing.
Members of the campus and greater Eau Claire communities are welcome to share comments during the one-hour session. Parking will be available in the university's Water Street lot during the session (parking tickets will not be issued during the hearing time).
The revised mission statement resulted from UW-Eau Claire's strategic planning efforts and a campuswide reaccreditation self-study that revealed broad understanding of the core mission of the university but also a desire by faculty, staff and students to create a more concise mission statement. After extensive campus discussion, the proposed draft was approved by the University Senate in September 2009. The Student Senate also has endorsed the proposed mission statement.
The proposed mission statement is below. The bullet items that follow the mission statement expand on the statement.
