SUBJECT: Students to clean up neighborhoods Saturday
Several UW-Eau Claire students will spend part of Saturday, May 8, cleaning up trash and other debris in a neighborhood that includes many student rentals.
The students will work from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday in an area bordered by the Chippewa River, Lake Street, First Avenue and 10th Avenue.
Katie Caldwell, the organizer of the cleanup effort, said she was inspired by a service project she participated in while on a Civil Rights Pilgrimage to the south during spring break. During that trip she and others spent several hours cleaning up a park in Selma, Ala. She said she was amazed by the difference they made. She returned from the trip determined to do something similar for the Eau Claire community.
