EAU CLAIRE — Indie-folk star Haley Bonar will perform May 14-15 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Her free shows will begin at 8 p.m. in The Cabin of Davies Center. The alt-country singer-songwriter also will close Springfest, the annual campus celebration of music and spring, with a free outdoor concert at noon May 14 on the Central Campus Mall.

Born near Winnipeg and raised in South Dakota, Haley Bonar called Duluth and St. Paul home before she moved to Portland last summer. She recorded her first album when she was 17, and her follow-up release, "The Size of Planets," two years later was named one of the best albums of 2003 by the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Her next album, "Lure the Fox" (2006), earned two Minnesota Music Awards, and that year Bonar was named City Pages' Artist of the Year.

"Haley's music is a gateway to understanding the world around us and the world within us," wrote Ali Selim, writer and director of the Independent Spirit Award-winning film, "Sweet Land" (2005), for which Bonar sang the theme. "Her voice is an invitation to amazing places."

Bonar has toured with Andrew Bird and Mason Jennings, and she has shared the stage with Neko Case, the Arcade Fire and Wanda Jackson. The female voice on Andrew Bird's 2007 album "Armchair Apocrypha," Bonar is touring in support of her critically acclaimed fourth CD, "Big Star" — named one of City Pages' Best Albums of 2008 — as she prepares to record her next.

Cabin performances are free and open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer, specialty coffee drinks and tea are sold at all evening programs. Proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.

All performances are produced and managed by student members of The Cabin committee of the Student Senate's University Activities Commission. For a complete schedule, call the Activities and Programs office at 715-836-4833 or visit The Cabin website.
