Students to present research at state Capitol

image for Posters in the RotundaEAU CLAIRE — Nine University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students will present six research projects to legislators, state leaders and UW System alumni and supporters during "Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research" May 5 at the state Capitol in Madison.

Participating students, their majors, faculty mentors and research topics are:

  • James Bomber, Eau Claire, physics, (Dr. Thomas Lockhart), "Bouncing Liquid Jets."
  • Pa Sia Lor Moua, Eau Claire, elementary education, (Dr. Aram deKoven), "Identifying the Hurdles and Springboards to Admission, Persistence, and Graduation for Students of Color in a Teacher Education Program."
  • Kaleb Durocher, Wisconsin Rapids, art; Andrew Kaiser, Eau Claire, art; and Daniel Smith, Golden Valley, Minn., art; (Jyl Kelley and Wanrudee Buranakorn), "Residual Reality."
  • Michael Joseph Fox, Altoona, English, (Dr. Erica Benson), "The Bag that Scott Bought: The Low Back Vowel Merger, Northern Cities Shift, and Pre-Velar Raising in Eau Claire, Wisconsin."
  • Kaitlyn Pettingill, Superior, biology, (Dr. Christina Hupy), "Dendrochronological History of the Lower Chippewa River Valley."
  • Tory Miller, Rice Lake, psychology; and Ashley Zellhoefer, Kenosha, psychology and music, (Dr. Jennifer Muehlenkamp) "Stress, Coping, and Suicidal Ideation in College Students."

Students and faculty at UW-Eau Claire, the UW System's designated Center of Excellence for Faculty and Undergraduate Student Research Collaboration, regularly work together to complete nationally recognized, cutting-edge research in a variety of disciplines. Students across campus have research opportunities often found only at large graduate research institutions.

In Madison UW-Eau Claire students and faculty mentors will join researchers from other UW System schools to discuss their work and the value of undergraduate research.
