EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's graduate program in communication sciences and disorders has again been accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
"The CAA found our program to exceed the established expectations for student achievement in the areas of program completion rates, employment rates and Praxis Examination rates," said Dr. Kristine Retherford, chair of the communication sciences and disorders department. "We're proud that our program continues to exceed the high expectations set by the accrediting agency."
The latest CAA action will provide the UW-Eau Claire program with reaccreditation for eight more years.
"Our graduate program has been continuously accredited since 1977," Retherford said. "As academic and clinical standards have changed, we've had to respond to those changes, so the latest accreditation reflects our ability to stay current within the profession."
The communication sciences and disorders graduate program prepares students for careers in speech-language pathology and audiology. Graduates of the program find work as speech-language pathologists in a variety of educational, health care and social service settings.
Program graduates are eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; for professional registration or licensure; and for those who choose to complete the requirements, a license from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
"The program has a strong focus on preparing students for the next step in their careers," Retherford said.
