Brazilian guitarist to perform, lecture on campus April 5 and 6

EAU CLAIRE — The award-winning Brazilian guitarist Guilherme Vincens will present a classical guitar recital at 7:30 p.m. April 5 in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He also will present a lecture at 7 p.m. April 6 in Phillips Recital Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.

Equally accomplished in popular and classical music, Vincens began his studies at the age of 9 and has toured throughout the United States, Brazil, Spain and Latin America. He holds a doctorate in musical arts from the University of Arizona and has received more than 12 awards in international and national guitar competitions. He has studied with and participated in master classes with world-class musicians and was invited to perform at the fourth annual Festival Internacional de Violão (International Guitar Festival) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, considered the most important guitar event in the country.

Vincens is a full-time professor of guitar and coordinator of the superior degree in music at the Federal University of São João Del Rei in Minas Gerais, Brazil. He is frequently invited to teach, research, lecture and perform at music festivals, universities and concert series. His visit is sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire Academic Affairs Professional Development Program, College of Arts and Sciences, department of foreign languages, and department of music and theatre arts.
