Musical events
for the week of April 5

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning April 5. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, April 5:

  • Senior Eric Whaylen, Duluth, Minn., will present a euphonium recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted on piano by Anne Kubiatowicz, Whaylen will present selections by Joseph Horovitz, Camille Saint-Saens, Neal Corwell, John Stevens and Philip Sparke. During the performance, Whaylen also will be assisted on tuba by senior Calvin Grier and junior Robert Margolis, and on euphonium by senior Bobbi Geissler.
  • Guest artist Guilherme Vincens will present a classical guitar recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. An award-winning Brazilian guitarist, Vincens has toured throughout the United States, Brazil, Spain and Latin America. Vincens holds a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Arizona and has received more than 12 awards in international and national guitar competitions. He has recorded alongside the group Nono Osso and the Péricles Garcia Band and performs as a regular with Duo Tramanduá (guitar and flute duo). His selections will include works from the following composers: Garoto, Joaquín Rodrigo, Egberto Gismonti, Sérgio Assad, Ástor Piazzolla, Guinga and Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Tuesday, April 6:

  • Sophomore Anthony Reed, Alexandria, Minn., and junior Meagan Seubert, Eau Claire, will present a bass and soprano voice recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Seubert and Reed will present selections by Johann Sebastian Bach, Gioacchino Rossini, Franz Schubert, Reynaldo Hahn, Ralph Vaughan Williams and others.

Wednesday, April 7:

  • Senior Jim Kellerman, Minneapolis, Minn., will present his degree composition recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. The recital will feature seven original works performed by UW-Eau Claire music students and faculty members. Kellerman's pieces will feature percussion, wind and brass instruments, and guitar.

Thursday, April 8:

  • Junior David Starry, Portage, will present a tenor voice recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted by Alexander Jacques on piano, Starry will perform works by Benjamin Britten, Franz Schubert, Henri Duparc, Charles Ives and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
  • The violoncello studio of Tulio Rondón, assistant professor of music, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Students will present selections by Antonio Vivaldi, Alfredo Piatti, Paul Hindemith and Dmitri Shostakovich.
