Blugold Marching Band to spend 'Springtime in Paris'

RELEASED: March 26, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — Members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Marching Band will travel to Europe for the "Springtime in Paris" performance tour March 27-April 5.

The 136-member contingent, under the direction of Dr. Randal Dickerson, associate professor of music, will make stops in Paris, London and Venice as part of the tour.

They will perform in Venice's St. Mark's Square, at Champs des Mars (at the foot of the Eiffel Tower) and in the front plaza of Notre Dame Cathedral, Square Saint Jean XXIII, in Paris.

With 280 members, the Blugold Marching Band is one of the largest and most active marching bands in the Midwest. Recent performances have included NFL and Blugold away games, festivals and stage shows. During the 2007-08 academic year, the band performed in eight cities and four countries for combined audiences of more than 150,000 people. The season concluded with special performances at the New Year's Day Papal Blessing in St. Peter's Square, Vatican City, and stage shows in Florence, Italy; and Athens, Greece.
