EAU CLAIRE — Dr. Mitra Sadeghpour, associate professor of music and theatre arts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, will be featured in a March 20 concert by the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra. The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 202 W. Grand Ave. in Eau Claire.

"This will be Mitra's third appearance with ECCO," said Ivar Lunde Jr., ECCO music director. "We are delighted to welcome her back. She sang with us previously in 'Samuel Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915' and in the world premiere of David Baker's 'Chamber Symphony.'"

Sadeghpour, a soprano, will sing "Chanson Perpetuelle" for voice and orchestra by Ernest Chausson.

"The piece is most often sung in a version for soprano, string quartet, and piano, so it is a real treat to have the opportunity to sing the full orchestral version which is actually the original version," said Sadeghpour, who directs the university's opera program in addition to being an active recitalist and concert musician.

According to Sadeghpour, "Chanson Perpetuelle" is one of Chausson's most important works. She selected it for its "beauty and haunting melancholy." A woman sits at the edge of the water where she used to meet her lover, who has now left her. As she contemplates drowning herself, she recounts the story of their meeting and their time together. At the end she dreams that the water will feel like the embrace of the one who is now absent.

"I am lucky to have had a number of excellent collaborations with ECCO over my years in Eau Claire and they have been an important part of my professional life in Eau Claire. As always, I feel honored to be a part of their programming."

The concert, which also will feature pianist Ned Kirk from Winona, Minn., is underwritten in part by support from the Chippewa Herald and Chippewa Valley Newspapers. Tickets, available at Visit Eau Claire (formerly the Chippewa Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau), Schmitt Music, Morgan Music, Neff Piano Shop and at the door, are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors and $8 for students.

The chamber orchestra is featured on Community Television's analog channel 96 and digital channel 993 in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls and many other area communities Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Fridays at 6:30 p.m. The current program previews the March 20 concert and features Lunde and Jeremy Neff, a member of the ECCO board and owner of Neffs Piano Shop. The CTV program is hosted by Tom Barland.
