EAU CLAIRE —Ten University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students attended the 2010 Delta Epsilon Chi State Career Development Conference, "Live, Learn and Lead," March 5 and 6 in Madison. During the conference more than 500 students from across the state competed in business simulations, case studies and business presentations.

Students competed in a variety of events relating to entrepreneurship, retail management, financial service analysis, travel and tourism and other business-related areas. The conference, which was designed to connect the classroom with the boardroom, had a strong emphasis on professional and leadership development. Students also had the opportunity to interact with industry professionals.

Several members of UW-Eau Claire's DECA/Delta Epsilon Chi chapter placed in the event's 100-question comprehensive exam, as well as in business simulation, case studies and prepared events. Josh Mondor, Somerset, and Emily King, Rochester, Minn., placed first in financial statement analysis; Dan Wolf, Appleton, and Sara Arent, Appleton, placed second in international marketing; Emily Leonhard, Wausau, placed second in fashion merchandising and marketing; Preston Schmidt, Shoreview, Minn., Alex Sturtervant, Appleton, and Michael Falk, Menomonie, were finalists in travel and tourism; and Nicole Huebner, Eau Claire, competed in advertising campaign development.

Leonhard also has represented Delta Epsilon Chi over the past year on the State Action Team. She has served as state president and western region vice president for Wisconsin Marketing Management Association-Delta Epsilon Chi. She has traveled to various cities in Wisconsin and met with students to help develop Delta Epsilon Chi.

Michael Siakpere, Eau Claire, is national vice president for Delta Epsilon Chi and attended the state conference to provide knowledge and guidance to the students competing. In the past year he has worked on a team with other officers from across the nation to collectively represent the more than 185,000 students enrolled in marketing, management and entrepreneurship programs.

According to Huebner, a group of students also will represent UW-Eau Claire at the Delta Epsilon Chi international conference April 16-21 in Louisville, Ky.
