Musical events
for the week of March 15

RELEASED: March 10, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire music and theatre arts department will present the following musical performances the week beginning March 15. All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, March 15:

  • Senior Jason Marshall, Oconomowoc, will present a trombone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. He will present selections by Johann Ernst Galliard, Jules Massenet, Eugene Bozza and others. Marshall will be assisted on piano by Anne Kubiatowicz and on trombone by senior William Schwartz and sophomores Joe Aumann and Will Horn.

Tuesday, March 16:

  • The Composition Studio of Dr. Ethan Wickman, assistant professor of music, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Music students will perform original compositions by juniors Ben Hase, Wausau, Greg Ellis, Waukesha, and Jennifer Newton, Stillwater, Minn., and seniors Anna Brake, Brookings, S.D., Aaron Hedenstrom, St. Paul, Minn., and Alyssa Severson, Eau Claire.
  • The UW-Eau Claire department of music and theatre arts will present a student voice area recital at 5 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Vocal students will present selections by Charles Gounod, Gabriel Fauré, Ernest Chausson, Georges Bizet, Claude Debussy and others.

Wednesday, March 17:

  • Guest artist Dr. David Cartledge, assistant professor of music at Indiana University, will perform a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. He will perform selections by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Liszt. Cartledge has performed throughout the United States and internationally. At Indiana University he teaches graduate piano literature and keyboard literature classes and directs the Secondary Piano Program, a program for non-piano majors. In 2009 he was a member of the organizing committee for the World Piano Pedagogy Conference in Phoenix, Ariz.

Thursday, March 18:

  • Sophomore Kyle Manley, Rosemount, Minn., will present a saxophone recital at 5 p.m. in Phillips Recital Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center. Assisted by Judy Lies on piano and by the student group Saxes not Axes, Manley will present selections by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Ida Gotkovsky, David Maslanka, Jean Rivier and junior Gregory Ellis. Manley also will perform his original piece, "Soplectric."
