EAU CLAIRE — Dr. Tim Sharp, executive director of the American Choral Directors Association, will rehearse and interact with University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students March 24-26 as the 2010 choral artist-in-residence.

Sharp is an active choral conductor, researcher and writer. He has varied his career with executive positions in higher education, publishing and recording. In his current position, he travels the world working with choral ensembles.

"He brings to our campus a wide spectrum of expertise in the choral art to share with our students and faculty," said Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of music and director of UW-Eau Claire choral activities.

The choral artist-in-residence is invited to campus to observe the choral program and offer expertise in the development of choral experiences for UW-Eau Claire students. Sharp will work with four ensembles during his visit, Schwartzhoff said.

Sharp has conducted a wide variety of choirs throughout his career, including university, church, community and children's choirs. He also has formed choirs in such places as federal penitentiaries. Sharp's choirs have performed in such venues as St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice, Italy; the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., St. Paul's Cathedral in London, England; and Carnegie Hall in New York City.

He was director of choral activities at Belmont University before his appointment at Rhodes College, where he conducted the Belmont Choir and the Oratorio Chorus.
