EAU CLAIRE — The Alpha Centauri will play three free shows at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire March 19-20. The Minneapolis synth-pop band will perform in The Cabin of Davies Center at 11:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. March 19 and at 8 p.m. March 20.

The Alpha Centauri is touring in support of its second album, "Lava Rocks" (2009).

"The Alpha Centauri lives up to its solar-system-sized sonic aspirations on this sophomore release," wrote The Onion A.V. Club, which called it "an over-the-top prog-rock epic ... vibrant and distinctive."

Featuring dual lead singer-songwriters Lance Conrad and Linnea Mohn, the sophisticated art-pop sound of the band is anchored by the percussion of Luke Anderson and the eclectic synthesizer and accordion sounds of Evan Beaumont.

Cabin performances are free and open to all ages. Soft drinks, domestic and imported beer, specialty coffee drinks and tea are sold at all evening programs. Proof of age is required for alcohol purchases.

All performances are produced and managed by student members of The Cabin committee of the Student Senate's University Activities Commission. For a complete schedule contact the Activities and Programs office, 715-836-4833, or visit the Cabin Web site.
