EAU CLAIRE — The fourth edition of the nursing textbook "Advanced Practice Nursing: Core Concepts for Professional Role Development," edited by University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire faculty members Dr. Michaelene Jansen, professor of nursing, and Dr. Mary Zwygart-Stauffacher, interim dean of nursing, now is available to students.

The textbook is offered as an option for students enrolled in Nursing 760: Transitions to Advanced Practice. It is a guide for students to learn about various advanced practice roles and assist them in developing careers in the nursing field. Specifically, the book is geared toward students studying to be midwives, nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists and nursing specialists.

"The text, now in its fourth edition, focuses not only on the care and management of patients, but on meeting the challenges of the rapidly changing health care environment" said Jansen.

The text also provides crucial information for students including reimbursement, translating research into practice, integrating technology and more.

"This text grew out of the need to help graduate students move from a professional nursing role to an advanced practice role as a health care provider" said Jansen. "It provides a concise yet comprehensive approach to advanced practice nursing."

Other UW-Eau Claire faculty contributors were Dr. Sheila Smith, professor of nursing, and Dr. Cecelia Zorn, professor of nursing.
