New awards program to celebrate student excellence

RELEASED: March 2, 2010

graphic for Student Excellence AwardsEAU CLAIRE — Nominations and applications are currently being accepted for the 2010 University Student Excellence Awards, a new collaboration of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Alumni Association, the UW-Eau Claire Foundation and the University Centers.

To more closely align with the university's Centennial Plan, the former Outstanding Student Awards program and the former Student Leadership Recognition Awards program were merged to create the University Student Excellence Awards program. The purpose of the merger is to create a program that elevates these awards as a universitywide recognition of student excellence, patterned in part by the faculty and staff excellence awards presented each fall. In addition, greater emphasis will be placed on the accomplishments of outstanding students in the four colleges and the achievements of other students in areas that reflect the university's values as articulated in its mission and Centennial Plan.

The students honored reflect the university's living vision to be the premier undergraduate learning community in the Upper Midwest. Award recipients will be recognized at the 2010 University Student Excellence Awards reception May 6.

All UW-Eau Claire faculty, staff and students are invited to submit nominations. Student organizations may submit applications for the New Student Organization Award and the Student Organization Award. All nominations and applications for awards are due March 15.

Questionnaires regarding campus and community involvement will be sent to nominees upon their nomination. Nominees must submit completed questionnaires by April 9 to be eligible for awards. A special selection committee will review all nominations and applications.

More information about the University Student Excellence Awards program is available through Angie Bong (715-836-3855) in the University Centers' Activities and Programs office.
