Celebration of Choral Music set for March 14

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will present the 17th annual Celebration of Choral Music, sponsored by the UW-Eau Claire student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, at 2 p.m. March 14 in Gantner Concert Hall of the Haas Fine Arts Center.

The ACDA concert will feature, in order of performance, The Singing Statesmen, Women's Chorus, Women's Concert Chorale and Concert Choir.

The Singing Statesmen, directed by Dr. Gary Schwartzhoff, professor of music, will open with "Trösterin Musik" by Anton Bruckner. "Sanctus" by Thomas Tallis, "An Irish Airman Foresees His Death" by Bryon Adams, "Reconciliation" by Stephen Chatman and "The Morning Trumpet," arranged by Mack Wilberg, will follow.

Women's Chorus, under the direction of Richard Moses, lecturer of music, will take the stage next and perform "Stabat Mater" by Giovanni Pergolesi and "Ya Ba Bom" arranged by Maurice Goldman.

Women's Concert Chorale, directed by Mark Mowry, lecturer of music, will begin with Hans Leo Hassler's "Nun fanget an ein gutes Liedlein." "Crucifixux" by Andrea Gabrieli, "Nigra Sum" by Pablo Casals and "Sigh no more, ladies" by Ralph Vaughan Williams will follow.

Concert Choir, also under the direction of Schwartzhoff, will take the stage last. The choir will begin with "Cantante Domino" by Hans Leo Hassler, "Qui Sedes" by James Fritschel and Morten Lauridsen's "O Nata Lux" and will conclude with "O Magnum Mysterium" by Z. Randall Stroope and "Quicksand Years" by René Clausen.

Accompanists are junior Alex Chilsen, sophomore Alexander Jacques and freshman Andrew Steffen for The Singing Statesmen; senior Megan Hoffman for Women's Chorus; junior Melissa Opitz for Women's Concert Chorale; and Jacques and junior Eric Frei for Concert Choir.

Tickets, available at the Service Center, 715-836-3727 or 800-949-UWEC, are $5 for the general public; $4 for those 62 and older, 17 and younger and faculty and staff with a university ID; and $1.50 for students with a university ID.
