EAU CLAIRE — A free outdoor family show July 7 by Magic Mama will highlight an abbreviated week of Summer Events programming at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The first event in the Wednesday evening Shakespeare and Others in the Park series will begin at 7 p.m. on the Central Campus Mall (rain site: The Cabin of Davies Center).
Magic Mama is an eco-edu-tainer who specializes in music, art and environmental education. She performs organic hip-hop and world beats for the whole family. Through her music, Magic Mama delivers an empowering and hope-filled message of love and respect for all and inspires creative thinking and Earth-friendly actions.
Mike Paulus of Volume One magazine wrote that Magic Mama "produces a kind of De La Soul meets Keller Williams on Sesame Street vibe." The Indianhead Federated Library System described her debut album, "Rodeo deGaia" (2007), as having "intricate and mesmerizing rhythms, gorgeous jazzy vocals, clever lyrics, rap influences, and a consistent ecological message ... about the importance of working together, respecting each other and the Earth."
The Fresh Start Farmers Mart on July 8 will bring a sample of area farmers market offerings to campus from 8 a.m. to noon on the sidewalk north of Zorn Arena.
With the theme "Welcome to our Backyard," the Summer Events series continues through Aug. 5. A complete schedule is available online or at the Service Center, 715-836-3727. The eight-week series is funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire and coordinated by the University Centers.
