EAU CLAIRE — A free outdoor concert by Eggplant Heroes will highlight the second week of the Summer Events series June 21 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
The show will begin at 7 p.m. Monday on the Central Campus Mall (rain site: The Cabin of Davies Center). Audience members are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic. Free popcorn will be available.
Eggplant Heroes is a musical collaboration by members Duffy Duyfhuizen (Jones Tones), Joel Pace (Irie Sol), Olaf Lind (Coolhand Saints, Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra) and poet-songwriter Max Garland. Blending three-part harmonies with guitar, trumpet and violin, the group presents an eclectic mix of originals, adaptations, gospel and folk ranging from 17th-century English and Irish ballads to the Old Crow Medicine Show. Eggplant Heroes' Music on the Mall show marks the release of its first CD of all-original songs, "After This Time."
Jazz at Noon concerts will take place every weekday, featuring the David Power Trio (June 21-23) and the Jeff Walk/Adrian Klenz Group (June 24-25). The 60-minute shows on the Central Campus Mall (rain site: The Terrace of Davies Center) offer jazz standards and improvisation. A variety of grilled lunch items will be sold.
A sample of area farmers market offerings will be brought to campus at the Fresh Start Farmers Mart from 8 a.m.-noon June 24 on the sidewalk north of Zorn Arena.
With the theme "Welcome to our Backyard," the Summer Events series continues through Aug. 5. A complete schedule is available online or at the Service Center, 715-836-3727. The eight-week series is funded by the students of UW-Eau Claire and coordinated by the University Centers.
