EAU CLAIRE — A Grafton High School graduate has received the Grafton Faculty Alumni Scholarship, which was established in 2009 with the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation by six Grafton High School teachers who are UW-Eau Claire alumni, along with other UW-Eau Claire alumni from Grafton.

Olivia Aschenbrenner, who received the $500 scholarship, had a 3.8 grade-point average in high school and plans to major in one of the physical sciences at UW-Eau Claire. She is a triplet, and her two triplet sisters, Rachel and Claire, also plan to attend UW-Eau Claire. They will be joining an older sister, Molly, who is a senior there.

Aschenbrenner was involved in competition cheerleading, Math Hawks and club gymnastics at Grafton High School. She also volunteered at St. Joseph's Group Home, a retirement home; Cedarburg's Rivoli Theatre; local youth cheerleading clinics; and a local gymnastics academy.

The Grafton teachers — Chris Hanley, James Johnson, Paul Waitrovich, Shannon Measner, Clare Weidner and Fran Grant — created the scholarship so a Grafton High School graduate would be able to experience UW-Eau Claire and its benefits.

"We always talked about how much of a positive influence UW-Eau Claire had been in our lives," Waitrovich said. "We wanted to help one of our students experience the same thing."

The fund still is accepting contributions, so others with any type of connection to Grafton High School may add to the scholarship through their gifts to UW-Eau Claire. For more information, contact the UW-Eau Claire Foundation at 877-625-2473.
