EAU CLAIRE — Brian A. Carlisle has been named dean of students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire following a national search. Carlisle's appointment is effective July 23.

"The search committee did an outstanding job in identifying four very qualified candidates for the on-campus interviews," said Beth Hellwig, UW-Eau Claire vice chancellor for student affairs. "I'm happy to share that Brian will be coming to us with some outstanding experience at the San Francisco Art Institute, UCLA and Saint Louis University. My sense is that he is extremely student oriented and will bring innovative ideas to the dean of students position."

Carlisle most recently served as associate vice president of student affairs and dean of students at the San Francisco Art Institute. His responsibilities included supervision of career resources, international student affairs, personal counseling, student activities, student government, orientation, commencement, disability services, judicial affairs and residential life. Carlisle expanded the programs and services offered through the institute's student affairs division, produced the division's first strategic plan and negotiated contracts for a new residence hall.

Carlisle also previously served as associate dean of students at UCLA, where he organized an institutionwide core values program focusing on integrity, excellence, accountability, respect and service. He also worked in the student affairs division at Saint Louis University and is a former mathematics faculty member at a small college in Alabama.

"From the first moment I arrived in Eau Claire I felt like I was home," Carlisle said. "My decision to accept the dean of students position has been made easy by my interactions with the amazingly talented students, faculty, staff and administrators with whom I met. I am thrilled to be joining the UW-Eau Claire family, and I look forward to making positive contributions to our shared Blugold experience."

Carlisle received his bachelor's and master's degrees from The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and his juris doctor degree from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles.
