EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension will present the Western Wisconsin Kids & Obesity Conference from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at The Florian Gardens in Eau Claire. The conference is designed for health care and human services professionals, educators and others who work with young people.
The conference will focus on strategic and coordinated actions that can be taken to help stem the epidemic of childhood obesity. Conference objectives include an examination of the problem, the latest evidence-based prevention strategies, examples of successful western Wisconsin programs and resources available to help support community childhood obesity programs.
Keynote speakers will be UW-Eau Clare alumnus Dr. William Klish, professor emeritus of pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, who will present "Kids & Obesity: Why Should We Care?"; and Dr. Marilyn S. Nanney, assistant professor of family medicine and community health at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn., who will present "Childhood Obesity Prevention: What Works?"
"I strongly believe that obesity is the most important public health issue facing the world today, and that the roots of adult obesity lie within childhood," Klish said.

The program fee is $99 per person through Sept. 10 and $119 after Sept. 10. The fee includes refreshments, lunch, materials and instruction.
