Parking to be limited in Phillips lot

beginning July 21

RELEASED: July 19, 2010

EAU CLAIRE —Parking in the Phillips lot on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's lower campus will be limited to the lot's east and west ends beginning July 21 due to the next phase of an ongoing steam line installation project.

The center of the Phillips lot will close as crews begin box conduit installation through that area. However, the drive to the west of Phillips Hall and south of Davies Center will remain open to two-way traffic, allowing access to Davies Center loading docks and parking on the east and west ends of the Phillips lot. The center of the Phillips lot is expected to reopen for parking Aug. 23.

The stairway south of the Phillips lot linking upper and lower campus will remain open throughout the project. Putnam Drive to the east of the stairway will be open to pedestrians and bicycle traffic but closed to vehicular traffic throughout the steam line project, which has an anticipated completion date of Oct. 15.

The new steam line will provide steam to the new university student center, for which construction is slated to begin in late fall. It also will provide redundancy for the university's current steam line system, which was constructed in the 1960s.

For more information about the steam line project, contact Terry Classen, UW-Eau Claire director of Facilities Management, at classetl@uwec.edu or 715-836-5278.
