EAU CLAIRE — Dr. Michaelene Jansen, professor of nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners at the organization's 25th annual meeting June 23 in Phoenix, Ariz. Jansen was one of 44 inductees to receive the prestigious honor, bringing the total number of fellows across the nation to 247.

"I am quite honored that a colleague of mine felt that I met the criteria to be nominated," Jansen said.

Since 1994, Jansen has worked part time as a nurse practitioner in primary and specialty practice along with her teaching. She most recently authored "Managing Pain in Older Adults" and co-edited the fourth edition of "Advanced Practice Nursing: Core Concepts for Professional Role Development" with Dr. Mary Zwygart-Stauffacher, interim dean of nursing at UW-Eau Claire.

Jansen has served on the board of directors for the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties and has provided free health screening exams at the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic and other community outreach programs.

The Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing Practitioners program was established in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through NP clinical practice, research, education or policy. Priority initiatives of FAANP are the development of leadership and mentorship programs for NPs and NP students.

The AANP was founded in 1985 and is the oldest, largest and only full-service national professional organization for NPs of all specialties. With more than 27,500 individual members and 131 group members, AANP represents the interests of approximately 135,000 NPs around the country. AANP continually advocates for the active role of NPs as providers of high-quality, cost-effective and personalized health care. For more information about AANP, visit their website.
