RELEASED: Jan. 28, 2010
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire forensics team competed in the Hell Froze Over tournament Jan. 16-17 at the University of Texas at Austin. UT Austin and Bradley University hosted the event. Six UW-Eau Claire students competed against students from 40 different schools across the nation. The team placed seventh Jan. 16 and fifth Jan. 17.
Individual results for Jan. 16 were:
Senior Nick Miller, Hales Corners, placed second in persuasion, fourth in impromptu speaking and sixth in communication analysis.
Senior Dylan Jambrek, Waukesha, placed fourth in after-dinner speaking and sixth in impromptu speaking. He also took fifth place in persuasion, which qualified him for the National Forensic Association tournament.
Individual results for Jan. 17 were:
Jambrek placed first in impromptu speaking, which qualified him for the American Forensic Association tournament in that event; second in persuasion and third in individual sweepstakes.
Miller placed first in persuasion.
Senior Laura Magnusson, Apple Valley, Minn., reached the semi-finals in informative speaking.
Junior Sarah Taylor, Merrill, reached the semi-finals in prose interpretation.
Magnusson and Miller placed sixth in duo interpretation.
