David Jeske, a University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire student and military veteran who served three tours of duty in Iraq with the U.S. Marine Corps, will be recognized during Gov. Jim Doyle's state of the state address today, Jan. 26.

Jeske, a junior finance major at UW-Eau Claire, was selected to represent veterans from across the state as someone making the most of benefits available through the Wisconsin GI Bill to attain a college education, said Marc Goulet, an associate dean in UW-Eau Claire's Dean of Students office.

Jeske enrolled at UW-Eau Claire after returning from his final tour of service in Iraq. He has been active in campus efforts to provide support for student veterans, serving as president of the Veterans Club student organization, co-chair of the university's Veterans Center funding committee and a member of the Veterans Advisory Committee. He also serves as secretary of the Financial Management Association, a student organization for business majors.

Doyle's address will begin at 7 p.m. in the state Capitol in Madison. Jeske also will attend a banquet following the address.

Jeske will be available to talk to reporters beginning at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, following his return to Eau Claire from Madison. He can be reached at 715-207-5636 or jeskedm@uwec.edu.

Marc Goulet, associate dean in the Dean of Students office, and Tim Moore, a veterans employment representative with the Office of Veteran Services of the state Department of Workforce Development, also are available to discuss Jeske's contributions at UW-Eau Claire. Moore submitted Jeske's name to the Governor's office to be considered for recognition during Doyle's address. Goulet has worked closely with Jeske on projects in support of student veterans. Goulet can be reached at 715-836-2003 or deanofstudents@uwec.edu; Moore can be reached at 715-836-2909 or tim.moore@dwd.wisconsin.gov.
