New Financial Management Series to be offered

RELEASED: Jan. 26, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — A new Financial Management Series will be offered through the Small Business Development Center and Continuing Education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Ingrid Ulstad, a certified public accountant and senior lecturer of accounting and finance at UW-Eau Claire, will lead the series, which comprises four workshops to be taken in sequence. The workshops, to be held at UW-Eau Claire, are:

  • March 4, 6-9:30 p.m., "Financial Accounting: Underlying Concepts." It will cover accounting terminology and concepts; cash vs. accrual accounting methods; how business activities affect financial statements; how the four financial statements are related; how to interpret financial statements; approaches to recording information; and the role of financial statements in financial management.
  • March 11, 6-9:30 p.m., "Financial Accounting: Using Financial Statements." It will cover the need for analyzing financial statements; types of financial analysis tools; what financial rations can tell you; and how to interpret financial ratios.
  • March 18, 6-9:30 p.m., "Managerial Accounting: Profit Planning and Budgeting." It will cover the factors involved in forecasting; the process of budgeting; the purpose of breakeven analysis; and how management tools relate to one another.
  • March 25, 6-9:30 p.m., "Managing Cash Flow." It will cover the relationship between income forecasts and cash projections; how to develop a cash flow projection; strategies to improve cash flow; and tools to diagnose potential cash flow problems.

The workshops are designed for small business owners and managers. The cost per program is $99 per session. A discounted rate of $360 is available for individuals registering for all four workshops at the same time.
