Nontraditional students invited to welcome event

RELEASED: Jan. 14, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host a welcome and instruction course for adult students this month.

The Adult Student Welcome will be held from 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Jan. 22 in Room 1033 of McIntyre Library. The program is designed for nontraditional students who are new to the university, readmitted or have transferred from another university.

The welcome will introduce students to the services and opportunities available to nontraditional students. Participants will meet currently enrolled nontraditional students and talk with the adult student adviser. Information to be shared will include campus support services, dining options, parking and textbook rental and purchase.

Also joining the presentation will be local author Joan Fleming. Fleming will speak about purpose, passion and perseverance and her experiences returning to UW-Eau Claire when she was 35. Now 75, she has written two books and has been a national speaker for three decades.

The welcome is free but registration is required. To register, contact Nontraditional Student Services at 715-836-3259.

During the 2010 spring semester, UW-Eau Claire will offer a special course for adult students. The one-credit "Introduction to University Curriculum" course will help adult students make the most of their first year at the university.

The course will help adult students learn to balance life, work, family and college; handle stress; increase academic self-confidence; and improve study strategies.

For more information about the adult student sessions, contact Bonnie Isaacson at 715-836-3259 or isaacsbj@uwec.edu.
