EAU CLAIRE — Eau Claire Jazz Inc. has hired a part-time executive director to develop the organization's infrastructure and coordinate activities. The hiring was made possible by a grant of $10,000 from the Wisconsin Arts Board, awarded through its Creative Communities Program and matched by Eau Claire Jazz Inc. The CCP encourages arts education and community arts development in Wisconsin.

Patty Horecki was named to the position. Horecki has been integral in the development of Eau Claire Jazz Inc., leading the organization's transition from being a festival sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to a year-round community music celebration. Kyran Hamill, president of Eau Claire Jazz Inc. calls Horecki "the natural choice" because of her experience with nonprofits and her passion for supporting the arts.

Horecki was instrumental in creating the infrastructure of several nonprofit organizations including Eau Claire for Tomorrow, Children's Mental Health Alliance in the Chippewa Valley and the Chippewa Valley Youth Symphony, where she currently serves as president.

"We feel very fortunate to have someone of Patty's caliber working to advance and promote jazz in Eau Claire," Hamill said. "Her creativity, innovation and dedication have made it possible for Eau Claire Jazz Inc. to be where it is today."

Robert Baca, professor of music and director of jazz studies at UW-Eau Claire and artistic director for the Eau Claire Jazz Festival, sees the move as a way to ensure the longevity of the event. "We can also develop community partnerships to showcase jazz music, an original American art form," he said.

State Assembly Rep. Jeff Smith noted the positive impact the festival and the promotion of jazz music has had on area economic development.

"Eau Claire Jazz Inc. is able to continue to build partnerships with schools and businesses and to offer programming and events that highlight the arts," said Smith. "These efforts will enrich our area by providing year-round jazz events and bringing world class jazz artists to Western Wisconsin"

The Wisconsin Arts Board is the state agency that nurtures creativity, cultivates expression, promotes and supports the arts in communities and schools, stimulates community and economic development and serves as a resource for people of every culture and heritage in Wisconsins communities.

The 43rd Annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival will be held April 15-18. Eau Claire Jazz Festival is a community partnership dedicated to bringing world-class jazz artists to Western Wisconsin and promoting the rich cultural experience of jazz through music, education and art. The festival was founded in 1967 by UW-Eau Claire and is now sponsored in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Arts Board. Major sponsors include UW-Eau Claire, TravelWisconsin.com, Hal Leonard Publishing Co., Sitepro.com, Morgan Music and Visit Eau Claire.
