UW-Eau Claire to host Japanese faculty members, students

RELEASED: Feb. 22, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The department of education studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is sponsoring a visit by six graduate students and two faculty members from Japan's Hyogo University of Teacher Education Feb. 26-March 7.

UW-Eau Claire has had a partnership with Hyogo University of Teacher Education since the late 1990s. The contingent will be here to learn strategies and techniques for teaching English as a foreign language to middle school students in Japan.

As part of the English as a Second Language Faculty Development and Cultural Immersion Program, the visiting faculty and graduate students will observe local middle school teachers and their students, attend faculty development sessions, and gather information pertaining to continuous international partnerships.

The visitors will have time to take campus, local and regional tours, and will stay with community members to get an authentic cultural experience.

For more information, contact Dr. Dwight C. Watson, associate dean of the teacher education program and chair of the education studies department, at watsondc@uwec.edu.
