'The Vagina Monologues' to be presented Feb. 25-27

RELEASED: Feb. 19, 2010

V-Day logoEAU CLAIRE — Three benefit performances of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" will be presented at 7 p.m. Feb. 25-27 in Schofield Auditorium at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

Donations from local businesses and others sponsor this student production, which is a compilation of women's thoughts, feelings and experiences related to being a woman. The topics of the monologues range from coming of age to instances of sexual assault.

The presentation is co-hosted by the UW-Eau Claire Women's and Gender Equity Center and the V-Day Campaign, an on-campus organization established in 2007 to end violence against women and girls. The campaign invites members of college and university communities around the world to present productions of "The Vagina Monologues" to raise money and awareness to help stop violence.

This year's proceeds will go to the Bolton Refuge House, a shelter in Eau Claire for victims of domestic violence/sexual assault; the Center for Awareness of Sexual Assault; the women of the Democratic Republic of Congo; and Students Active For Ending Rape, a national resource for college-based volunteers.

A silent auction will be held each night beginning at 6:30 p.m. outside the auditorium. Items for bid include artwork, products from local businesses and gift certificates. Those interested in donating auction items may contact Jessica Ensrude at ensrudjl@uwec.edu.

Tickets for "The Vagina Monologues," available at the Service Center (715-836-3727 or 800-949-8932), are $10 for the general public or $7 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID.

For more information on "The Vagina Monologues" or the V-Day Campaign, contact Dana Abel at abeldm@uwec.edu.
