RELEASED: Feb. 15, 2010
EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's five a cappella ensembles will present a concert Feb. 22 to benefit Haiti earthquake relief efforts.
"Help for Haiti: Voices Raised in Hope" will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.
Audacious, Fifth Element, Impromptu, The Innocent Men and Girls Night Out will perform. A free-will offering will be taken, with all proceeds to benefit the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development fund. Financial contributions to the American Red Cross are tax-deductible.
"I speak on behalf of everyone in an a cappella on campus," said Alex Collie of Fifth Element. "This is a great opportunity to do some good for a place in need."
Audacious and Girls Night Out are the only all-female a cappella ensembles at UW-Eau Claire. Impromptu is an offshoot of the Concert Choir, and The Innocent Men are from The Singing Statesmen; their small-ensemble activities provide performance opportunities as an extension of the choral program at UW-Eau Claire. Fifth Element has no parent group, but most of its members have participated in a university choral ensemble.
Food and drink will be available for purchase.
Sponsored by the University Centers, the concert is part of UW-Eau Claire's Help for Haiti initiative.
