EAU CLAIRE — Darren K. Woods, operatic tenor and general director of the Fort Worth Opera, will visit and interact with University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students Feb. 16 and Feb. 17.

Woods has had a distinguished career as an operatic tenor since 1982. A graduate of the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston, he has spent his career portraying roles with opera companies throughout North America, including the New York City Opera, Carnegie Hall, the Washington Opera, L'Opera Madrid, Opera Trieste, Seattle Opera and Dallas Opera.

Under his leadership, the Fort Worth Opera has increased subscription and donor bases and has received rave reviews for production quality. In 2007, Fort Worth Opera changed its format to a Spring Festival Season. In four years, the Fort Worth Opera Festival has been hailed as one of the best in the country.

Before moving into management, Woods was an artistic director in upstate New York where he was known for his dedication to young artists. He continues to serve as artistic director of the Seagle Music Colony, the oldest summer vocal training program in the country. While general director of the Shreveport Opera in Louisiana, he founded the Shreveport Opera Express, which focuses on performance training for young singing artists. He is a frequent judge in vocal competitions and serves as a panel judge for the Richard Tucker Foundation, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the Lieber Competition, the Denver Opera Guild Competition, the Dallas Opera Guild Competition and the Marguerite McCammon Competition.

Instead of performing, Woods' visit to the UW-Eau Claire campus will involve face-to-face interaction and collaboration with students and faculty. Events are as follows.
