Time to reserve seats for spring Aldo Leopold conservation banquet

RELEASED: Dec. 15, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Environmental Adventure Center will collaboratively host the sixth annual Aldo Leopold Banquet and silent auction from 5-10 p.m. March 3, 2011, in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center.

The popular banquet honors the conservation legacy of Aldo Leopold, celebrates his life and writings, and aims to further foster the idea of developing a land ethic. The theme of this year's banquet is "Connecting Aldo Leopold with the 'Next Generation.'" The gathering is designed to pass the land legacy torch to the next generation.

The banquet's rustic-themed menu has several wild game offerings, including smoked buffalo, as well as wild rice, trout and vegetarian options.

The program will feature music by the Stoop Singers and five guest speakers: Kenny Salwey, author and star of the Emmy-award-winning film "Mississippi: Tales of the Last River Rat," which won seven international wildlife film awards; Joe Knight, Eau Claire Leader-Telegram outdoor writer and author; Drs. Sean Hartnett and Garry Running, representing the UW-Eau Claire geography and anthropology department, as well as the UW-Eau Claire Confluence Center and Watershed Institute; and from the "next generation" will be sophomore Sam Worple, Janesville, and the student staff at the EAC.

The cost is $20 for the general public and UW-Eau Claire faculty and staff, and $15 for UW-Eau Claire students. Seating is limited to 300, so advance registration is requested.

All proceeds from the banquet will benefit the UW-Eau Claire EAC and the UW-Eau Claire Confluence Center and Watershed Institute.

Tickets are available at the University Service Center in Davies Center or by phone at 715-836-3727. For more information, contact Dan Langlois at 715-836-3616 or langlodt@uwec.edu.
