SUBJECT: Therapy dogs and leader dog puppies-in-training visit library
Staff members from McIntyre Library at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire have invited therapy dogs and leader dog puppies-in-training to visit during finals week. Approximately 200 students turned out to play with the puppies and relax before a long night of studying Dec. 13. The dogs will return from 5-6 p.m. TODAY (Dec. 14).
Eric Jennings, research and instruction librarian, is overseeing the event. "The library sees this as another opportunity to show students that we're here for them during a really stressful time and that it is OK to take a break," Jennings said. "If anything, students will forget about their long night of studying and get a big smile while petting a puppy."
Therapy Dogs International and Leader Dog Puppy Raisers in the Chippewa Valley are co-hosting the event. TDI is a volunteer organization dedicated to regulating, testing and registering therapy dogs and their volunteer handlers for the purpose of visiting institutions and other places therapy dogs are needed.
Leader Dogs for the Blind pairs people in need with leader dogs to help with mobility and improved quality of life.
