SUBJECT: University Senate voted in favor of campuswide tobacco ban
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire University Senate voted in favor of a campuswide tobacco ban during its meeting Tuesday, Dec. 7.
In a 29-22 vote, the University Senate supported a resolution stating that "the use of tobacco and tobacco products be prohibited on all state-owned UWEC campus properties."
Earlier in the week, the UW-Eau Claire Student Senate unanimously opposed the resolution. The Student Senate supported continuing the designated smoking areas that now exist on campus.
The University Senate and Student Senate actions will be forwarded to Chancellor Brian Levin-Stankevich. He will gather input from members of the classified staff (who are not represented by the University Senate) and make a decision regarding the tobacco ban during the spring 2011 semester.
