Forensics team places first in recent tournament

RELEASED: Dec. 8, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Forensics Team traveled to UW-Stout Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 to compete in the Mike Nicolai Invitational. In team sweepstakes, UW-Eau Claire placed first in the entire tournament.

Individual results were:

Senior Whitney Zahn, Menomonee Falls, placed third in impromptu speaking. Junior Patrick Martin, Burnsville, Minn., placed second, and senior Sarah Taylor, Merrill, took first, qualifying her for the American Forensic Association tournament.

Senior Alicia Gerber, Ringle, took seventh place in prose interpretation, with Taylor placing sixth. Sophomore Megan McKeown, Eagan, Minn., took fifth place in the event.

Sophomore Abby Rand, Melrose, took fourth place in informative speaking, with junior Holly Albers, Mazeppa, Minn., placing third.

In persuasion, freshman Allie Lawler, Prior Lake, Minn., took fifth place and qualified for the National Forensic Association tournament. Rand placed third, also qualifying for the tournament, and Zahn placed first in the event.

Gerber placed fourth in program oral interpretation and qualified for the AFA. McKeown took second place in the event.

In duo interpretation, freshman Jarrel Montgomery, Madison, and Albers placed third, while qualifying for the NFA. Albers also placed second with teammate Gerber in the same event.

Sophomore Emily Gresbrink, Rochester, Minn., placed fifth in after-dinner speaking, while teammate Zahn placed fourth in the event.

In dramatic interpretation, Rand placed fifth. Martin took fourth and qualified for the NFA. Gerber took third in the event and qualified for the AFA. Taylor took first in the event.

McKeown took fifth place in poetry interpretation and Taylor placed second in the event.

In communication analysis, Martin placed first and qualified for the NFA, while Albers took third place in music interpretation.

In the individual sweepstakes, Gerber placed fifth, Taylor second and Albers first.
