New Hmong professionals organization
to meet Dec. 9

RELEASED: Dec. 7, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host the inaugural event for the new Hmong Professionals of the Chippewa Valley at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 in the Tamarack Room of Davies Center.

The event was organized by a group of UW-Eau Claire alumni and community members in response to the growing number of Hmong professionals in the community, said Dang Yang, a 2008 UW-Eau Claire alumnus and HPCV co-chair.

"For many years already, our community has had Hmong business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals, but we have not had the opportunity to network and share our experience or provide collective support among ourselves," said MaiVue Xiong, HPCV co-chair.

The event will include remarks from Chong Cha Her, a local business owner and pastor for the Hmong Alliance Church in Eau Claire.

"Dr. Her embodies all the qualities of a professional," Xiong said. "Not only is he well educated, he is committed to the greater Eau Claire community and has a close affinity to the Hmong community."

The event is sponsored by UW-Eau Claire's Office of Multicultural Affairs. For more information, contact Dang Yang at 715-212-3631 or yangda@uwstout.edu.
