EAU CLAIRE — Trix Bruce, a nationally known workshop presenter and American Sign Language performer, will present two programs on March 15, 2011, in Eau Claire. The programs are sponsored by the University
of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education/UW-Extension.

Profoundly deaf since she was 6 months old, Bruce went through oral, mainstreaming and deaf classes, and online educational programs. Active in the performing arts since 1980, she became involved with interpreter training after college, where she focused on ASL linguistics and performance. She is an approved sponsor for the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Certificate Maintenance Program.

"Visualize This: Drawing Space with ASL Classifiers," which will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Best Western Trail Lodge & Suites in Eau Claire, is designed for ASL Interpreters and others who want to enhance their skills in the language and more clearly portray the English message into ASL. This workshop will be offered only in ASL and there will not be an interpreter. The workshop fee of $99 includes instruction, class handouts and light refreshments. The student rate is $19. This professional studies program is offered for 0.6 continuing education units at the "little/no to some content knowledge" level.

"Baby Signs in ASL," which will be held from 6-8 p.m. in Room 229 of Hibbard Hall on the UW-Eau Claire campus, is designed for child care providers, parents, teachers, interpreters and others who want to communicate in sign with pre-verbal children, whether hearing or deaf. The $25 fee includes instruction and light refreshments. The student rate is $10.
