Continuing Education to offer new Math Quest program

RELEASED: Dec. 1, 2010

EAU CLAIRE — University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Continuing Education will offer Math Quest this spring, a new program for first- to fifth-grade students who are looking for an extra challenge in math. Classes will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturdays, Feb. 19-May 21, 2011, on the UW-Eau Claire campus. Classes will not meet on March 12, March 26, April 9 or May 14.

Math Quest provides hands-on activities and real-life examples to develop children's problem solving skills. The program curriculum emphasizes mastery of math concepts rather than memorization of facts or formulas. Initial placement is based on student comprehension, regardless of age or grade level. Students then advance at their own pace through seven levels, from basic computation through pre-algebra.

Math Quest tuition is $195 per student, which includes 15 hours of instruction and one textbook for each math level that children participate in during the 10 sessions. Parents who register two or more children from the same household will receive a discounted fee of $175 per student.

To register, obtain additional program information or request reasonable accommodations for disabilities, call Continuing Education at 715-836-3636 or
866-893-2423, use the Wisconsin Relay System (711), visit the CE website or
e-mail ce@uwec.edu.
